speedline
brush
obstacles
A tensioned line between an anchor in the tree and a ground anchor, used to carry brush over obstacles.
When to use it
Moving limbs out of a back garden, over a fence, pool or flower bed.
Step by step
Step 1
Set a rated anchor in the tree above the work and a solid ground anchor clear of the landing zone.
Step 2
Tension the speedline moderately — over-tensioning multiplies force on both anchors.
Step 3
Attach each piece to a carrier pulley or ring with a sling, at the balance point.
Step 4
Control travel with a retrieval or brake line held by the ground crew.
Step 5
Land pieces in a clear, marked zone and reset before the next cut.
Cautions
- Tension multiplies anchor forces dramatically — keep the line as slack as the job allows.
- Nobody stands under or beside a loaded speedline.
- Check the line path for contact with structures, conductors and other trees.
